The QuantiFERON-TB Gold test measures interferon-gamma released by T-cells in response to TB-specific antigens (ESAT-6, CFP-10). It’s more specific than the Mantoux test and unaffected by prior BCG vaccination. A positive result indicates TB infection but cannot distinguish latent from active disease.
